We all enjoy our privacy, especially when it comes to our backyard! Many times we just don’t want neighbors watching us while we relax in the sun, read, or grill out. So, what are some different ways to enhance backyard privacy?
A Fence
Of course, the very first recommendation we have is to fence in your backyard! If your deck or patio is at ground level, a backyard privacy fence will go a long way toward decreasing onlookers and increasing security. There are many beautiful types and styles of privacy fences to choose from, the most popular being wood and vinyl.
If you do not care to have your entire yard fenced in, you can fence in just your deck or patio! If having a privacy fence close to your patio or deck feels too claustrophobic, consider a fence that has a lattice top. This breaks up the solid panels while still giving you the privacy you desire.
Plants
Believe it or not, plants can be a fantastic way to increase your privacy, especially if you love to be surrounded by nature, flowers and wildlife! Consider heading to your local nursery to look at shrubs, trees, hedges, or potted plants. You can use a combination of these to make a barrier between you and your neighbors. Tall potted plants are a great option for second story decks or places where fences are not an option.
Screens and Curtains
Privacy screens and curtains can be set up and put away whenever you desire! You could make your own privacy barrier using repurposed doors or make one from scratch using the materials you prefer.
Curtains are another fun option that can make you feel like you are in a resort. Curtains are also good for keeping out insects or unwanted pests.
Sound
Do you want to keep neighbors from hearing your conversations? Consider a sound barrier! Backyard waterfalls or other water features are a great solution for families wanting more conversation privacy!
